Today was a true rest day! Most of the team split up & got a bit of R&R on their own. Linda & I had an enjoyable brunch, after our late wake up. After almost 3 weeks of being on this flight, with the accumulated stress of flying & the team being in such close proximity to each […]

Leaving Nhulunbuy It was an easy day flying with light tailwinds, & blue skies. It was only a short leg today from Nhulunbuy to Darwin, with a short stop in Maningrida to refuel & have lunch. It was hot! I definitely needed my sweat in a bottle (water spray bottle) today!
We spent last night & our rest day in Arnhem Village, part of Gove Operations Pacific Aluminium (Rio Tinto). The disabled rooms they provided were great with large bathrooms & fairly easy access around the site. And the food is really good – so much variety & quantity – I keep overeating!
After the highlight of meeting the Burketown State School kids yesterday, it was time to get going this morning as we had a long day of flying ahead of us. Gove Airport, Nhulunbuy was our next destination. I got up at 4 am to get ready. The disabled bathroom at the lodge was located outside. As I wheeled […]
Leaving Weipa After the previous tough flying days, it was great to wake up to a day of few clouds, light wind & perfect blue sky. Our friend from Weipa SES, Trevor Snodgrass, dropped us off at the airport to enable us to get away early. Thanks also to Trevor’s wife, Pam, who looked after […]
Leaving windy Cooktown We met such wonderful people in Cooktown. It’s a very pretty town & we just wish that we’d had more time to see it – no wonder Cook stopped here! We also learnt that it is a very windy place. However, with all our delays, I was looking forward to getting flying & ticking off another […]
Leaving Ingham Woohoo! We finally got out of Ingham! Very nice people but we just wanted to get going on our trip around Australia. The weather this morning looked better, the cloud was a little higher than other days, which gave us some confidence that we just might be able to get out!
I thought the weather was looking fairly promising when I rolled out of the motel room & looked at the sky toward the west. By the time we got packed up & down at the airfield at 9.30 am, the blue sky I’d seen previously had now been replaced by grey.
I found it hard to sleep as I was concerned about Linda, Bob & Michael, who were in the Piper Lance support plane, getting back from Dunk Island to meet up with us at Ingham today. The wind was howling all night & it was bucketing down & I thought the chances of them getting back […]
Leaving Airlie Beach I was pretty nervous flying out of Shute Harbour Airport after what had happened with me trying to fly in yesterday. Today didn’t look great with weather either. The forecast was for some low cloud & showers up the coast.
